Disaster Occurs as Accidental Detonation at Law Enforcement Facility in Kashmir Region Under Indian Control Results in Nine Deaths
A tragic detonation at a security post in the Indian-controlled part of Kashmir has caused the fatalities of nine individuals and harm to thirty-two additional people, according to police declarations.
The incident took place when a cache of impounded blast substances inadvertently exploded during handling procedures.
Timeline of Occurrences
The blast happened on the evening of Friday at the Nowgam law enforcement facility, where explosive materials confiscated in Faridabad region in the northern state of Haryana were being kept briefly.
Regional law enforcement head announced that the explosives were scheduled for technical investigation when a "extremely tragic" accident during processing caused their detonation at approximately 11:20 PM local.
Official Announcements
Security forces asserted that this was an "inadvertent blast" and as opposed to a terror incident. "Alternative theories regarding the origin of this occurrence is unwarranted," stressed the law enforcement head during a press briefing.
The law enforcement facility endured extensive destruction from the detonation, with neighboring structures also being impacted by the strong explosion.
Consequences and Casualties
Multiple vehicles were "covered in blaze and transformed into ashen remains, with wreckage spread across the site," according to police accounts.
"The intensity of the blast was so powerful that some physical fragments were recovered from adjacent homes, approximately between 100 and 200 meters from the security post," stated an official source.
The majority of the victims were security officials, along with forensic personnel, two investigative imaging experts, and a garment worker who was present with the personnel.
Government Reaction
The area's Lieutenant Governor expressed condolences and declared that an investigation had been commissioned into the devastating event.
"I have directed a probe to determine the cause of the inadvertent detonation. Extremely pained by the death of valuable individuals due to profoundly sorrowful accidental blast at Nowgam security post in Srinagar city. My condolences to the mourning loved ones. I hope for rapid recuperation of the wounded," expressed the authority on digital platforms.
