Over two dozen Olympic medal winners, trainers and other global sports figures have put their names to a statement demanding a halt to the death penalty of a champion boxer and instructor, who is sentenced to die in the nation.

Growing Global Anger

During increasing global condemnation over the country's increasing application of executions as a tool of suppression, the strongly worded letter censures the Iranian regime's decision to maintain the capital punishment of the boxing champion.

The boxer, three decades old, from Mashhad in north-east Iran, was arrested for participating in nationwide protests in two thousand nineteen and charged of backing an resistance movement. He has spent 60 months in detention, where he has been abused and confined in isolation.
