HBO's It Spinoff Releases Second Sooner Than Planned on the Streaming Platform
Audiences are thrilled for the chilling show Welcome to Derry, which is earning acclaim and weaving in references from other Stephen King works. Just one day after launch, HBO declared that the second installment will premiere ahead of schedule, released fittingly for the spookiest night.
Premiere Shift Information
Beginning on Halloween night at midnight PT, the next part of Welcome to Derry will make its debut on HBO's online platform, before its linear broadcast. Subsequent episodes of the eight-episode season will be released on Sunday nights on HBO and HBO Max, culminating in the season finale on the 14th of December.
Series Overview
Set in the world of King's It, the new series is inspired by King’s iconic novel while building upon the world established by director Andy Muschietti in the two It films. The first It movie centered on adolescents facing unimaginable horrors, thus it's suitable that the prequel continues that tradition. Yet, the first installment of HBO’s Welcome to Derry shows it intended to escalate the fear, providing even more intense scares than Muschietti’s films and creating a dark atmosphere for what's to come.
Premise and Ideas
Located in the early '60s, this show presents a new generation of grown-ups and kids residing in a apparently peaceful community hiding a evil heart. This place follows a vicious, repeating pattern—defined by violence, bigotry, and the supernatural, as a monstrous presence reappears once every three decades. While Welcome to Derry might sound like it leans too heavily to the movies initially, what distinguishes the HBO Max series is its two-sided viewpoint—unfolding through the perspectives of kids and grown-ups concurrently. Younger characters remain highly exposed to It's terror, but grown-ups don't escape confronting their individual fears born from the town's ingrained prejudice and lurking supernatural forces.
Episode 2 airs on Halloween at 3 a.m. EST.
