Jurgen Klopp states a return to coach Liverpool is conceivable.
The German coach, who stepped down from Liverpool in 2024, indicated that a future comeback remains an option. The 58-year-old, following a hugely successful near-decade reign featuring continental glory and the Premier League crown since 1990, currently occupies positions as head of global soccer for Red Bull and in an advisory capacity for the DFL.
Fan Sentiment and His Frank Comments
The club claimed the league title in the previous campaign, yet numerous supporters who revere Klopp would welcome the possibility that he may eventually return. Speaking candidly, he explained to the podcast host: “I declared I won't manage any other side on English soil. Therefore in case it's my former club...absolutely. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“At 58 years old, so I could make the decision in a few years, it's uncertain. Must I choose now? Then I will not coach again. Luckily, it's not necessary. I'll wait and observe what lies ahead.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
When asked about which situations would have to unfold to draw him back to the dugout, Klopp admitted he isn't eager toward coming back. “I'm not entirely sure, My present work fulfills me,” he stated. “I don’t miss coaching; No desire to be under bad weather for two-and-a-half or three hours; I don’t miss going to media briefings four times, three times a week or doing numerous chats a week.
“The locker room isn't missed in that context, but sitting in a restaurant alongside the squad enjoying conversation, I appreciate that. With many victories meaning regularly positive atmosphere in the building. I can still hear Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh ringing in my ears to illustrate.”
Commending Arne Slot
Klopp was full of praise for his successor, acknowledging his role for the tweaks that took the title in the previous season. The team has suffered four consecutive matches in every contest after a summer spending spree, but he rubbished the notion it could be a decline.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, doubters will be silenced with negative comments. An outstanding player. The French striker, superb talent. This is a well-built well-judged squad. You don’t have to worry regarding the Reds, things will improve.”
Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota
Klopp also spoke emotionally on the loss of Jota, a 2020 acquisition during his tenure, and the effect at the club. Jota died tragically in a road accident with his brother in July.
“Can you substitute somebody like Diogo? It goes beyond his footballing ability, it’s the guy he was. It's hard to picture the squad without him in it. I still cannot speak properly regarding this. A devastating blow for his teammates also. No one within the club might employ it to justify results though it's a fact. Entering the changing area where he was omnipresent. Handling this emotionally is not easy. Unbearable.”
