Manchester United Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with six months left on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Departure from Munich was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.
Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant boost to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Carrington
Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be building momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought additional business:
- The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.
On the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
