That Gruesome Cartoon Film Ending That Haunts Viewers
Out of every mature animated films I’ve personally watched, nothing has remained with me quite like the dread-soaked conclusion of the explicitly bloody as well as overwhelingly transgressive 2022 movie The Unicorn Wars.
In the year 2015, this Spanish filmmaker created a grim, bleak and frequently brutal universe with several minor , desolate hints of optimism.
Although The Unicorn Wars feels like it stemmed from a drive to expand animation even more, the director explained that it was more an effort to express a universal, cross-cultural theme about “the common origin of every conflict.”
That idea is conveyed through a band of colorful pastel bears , clearly modeled after a popular line of lovable characters.
Growing up in a culture focused on warmongering as well as the military-industrial complex, a lot of these animals are fixated on slaughtering unicorns, thanks to a sacred text that claims the bears they used to be kings of the forest, before the horned beings drove them out.
Some have not completely accepted the brainwashing, , would rather try out substances or fornicate in the woods.
Unlike their cuddly counterparts, these colorful critters have visible genitals , obvious libidos.
For a particular notably brutal, pessimistic creature, the bear named Bluey, the battle with unicorns transforms into a road toward dominance — and particularly to authority above his more tender, nicer brother the bear Tubby.
This bear behaves aggressively , an obvious psychopath , and while terror overcomes his unit and claims his fellow soldiers one by one, he takes increasingly influence personally, through ever more bloody, harmful methods.
At the same time, the horned creatures are enduring their own horror, through a spreading, deadly beast in their woods.
“In the early stages, it feels like a lighthearted film,” the director commented. “But then it becomes a more dramatic and melancholic film. And in the finale, it’s a terrifying movie.”
Unicorn Wars commences similar to among the whimsical features by a renowned animator, which find a mischievous joy in permitting drawn beings swear, shoot each other, or have intimate relations.
Then it becomes something more like a darker movie from the same director, with increasingly explicit brutality and a palpable connection to genuine suffering of conflict.
In the finale, it’s a complete extreme drama massacre.
The fear that turns the film a perfect Halloween viewing begins much sooner than indicated.
The Unicorn Wars is one for the hardcore lovers of violence, for enthusiasts of intense movies who desire to watch a film they have not seen on-screen before, and can endure a story that offers unflinching brutality.
Watch it in a dimly lit space without any distractions, and that ending will dig under your skin and take up residence there.
